History
1988
The Office of Minority Student Affairs, located in the Sitterding House basement was founded in response to intense lobbying from African American students.
1996
Due to the growing number of Latine and Hispanic students attending VCU and their need for culturally relevant support resources, the Office of Minority Affairs revised their goals and scope to include more underrepresented ethnic groups.
1998
Office of Minority Affairs was renamed Office of Multicultural Student Affairs
2004
OMSA relocated to a newly designed office in the University Student Commons
2006
OMSA expanded its scope by offering programs for women-identified students and students who identify as LGBTQIA+ (lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, queer/questioning, intersex, and asexual)+
